With a career spanning several decades in the insurance industry, Kawkab brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organization.
Kawkab’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She further enhanced her credentials by earning a Risk Management Certificate from McMaster University and a Commercial Insurance Certificate from the Insurance Institute. Her commitment to professional development was recognized in 2012 when she earned the graduate degree, Master of Management for Co-operatives and Credit Union (MMCCU), from St. Mary’s University, Halifax, NS.
Kawkab is Vancity’s nominee for both Property & Casualty (P&C) and Life Insurance and was appointed by CABRO to the Insurance Council in 2023. In the same year, she was honored as one of the 55 Elite Women in Insurance by Insurance Business Canada magazine, a testament to her leadership and influence in the field.
Born in Uganda and raised in Canada, Kawkab’s multicultural background has enriched her professional and personal life. She is a proud mother of two children, both pursuing post-secondary education – one at UBC and the other at BCIT.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kawkab is passionate about giving back to the community. She enjoys traveling and actively volunteers with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada and Aga Khan Foundation USA, focusing on risk and insurance program reviews.
As she joins the CUISA board, Kawkab looks forward to contributing to the development of resilient communities through the financial instrument of insurance. She firmly believes that insurance is a critical financial response to the harmful impacts of climate change and helps to build a more resilient and supportive financial ecosystem.
